OLIVER CRAVEN HAS SPENT HIS LIFE MAKING MUSIC
Oliver Craven has spent his life making music. Recently much of that has happened on stage with country music luminary Sierra Ferrell. His fiddle, guitar and voice, along with original song contributions have made him a prominent fixture in Ferrell’s band.
A classically trained violinist and son of a folk-singing preacher, Craven’s first gig came at the age of five as a member of the family band. Today the tenured performer has played legendary stages from The Ryman Auditorium to Wrigley Field. He has appeared with influences like Willie Nelson and icons like Mumford and Sons, and Post Malone. Be it for a crowd 50 or 50,000, watching Craven perform gives you the sense that he has always played for the sake of the music.
In the studio, Craven has lent his distinct voice and diverse talents to projects both original and in support of others. With his former band The Stray Birds, he contributed to four original albums. His songs have been cut by others including Sierra Ferrell and Billy Strings, and have been found in film soundtracks like that of The Hunger Games.
Recorded live to tape in Nashville, Craven’s forthcoming debut solo album features what feels inarguably like his best material to date. At once playful and reverent, the original music captured is a collection of spirited, soulful and nuanced performances by Craven and his band. The long-awaited release is a statement by an artist with much to say for a long time who has finally found the way to express it himself.
